L’Morphine

AKA: Mehdi Mouhib, M-Psy Date of Birth: 1984 Genre: Rap, Hip-Hop Years of Activity: 1998 – Present

Early Life and Career Start

Mehdi Mouhib was born in Sla, Morocco, and goes by the stage name L'Morphine. He began his musical career in 1998 as M-Psy. Initially, he did it as a pastime, uploading few tracks to YouTube and Skiblock. He moved to Marrakech in 2003 and has since lived in other Moroccan towns, including Casablanca, Midelt, and Meknes. He now lives in Marrakech with his friend and rapper Nessyou.

Musical Evolution and Solo Career

. L'Morphine's first journey into music was in 2004, when he began to seek public recognition. He has also communicated, through his music, the experience of being a raw reality voice for Morocco, in tandem with the country's not-so-hidden social complexity. L'Morphine joined the Piranha-Labo group in 2006 and began working on his debut album, "Magnetism." It immediately drew attention due to the lyrics and metaphors. In 2010, he went solo to have more creative freedom.

Style and influence

His two-part tale on the song "Tah Cobra" is an excellent example of how he can turn a personal story into a much broader social commentary. His recording approach is unique in that he writes the lyrics on the moment and never records the same verse twice—no takes, no double takes.
"I regard myself as a pen of the harsh reality that Morocco lives, but many people ignore underneath the pictures seen clearly and understood by all."

Hit Songs and Albums

. His most popular tracks include "L'Morphiniya 17" and "Sommaire - من الفضاء." His albums "Paprika" and "Costa Ya Watane" were huge successes, while "INK" and "Gala" cemented his place in Moroccan rap.

Impact and Legacy

. While L'Morphine's music has a large fan base, it also provides a critical perspective on Moroccan society. His ability to translate difficult concerns from songs into basic daily life problems has resulted in widespread affection and respect in the rap community for him. Overall, L'Morphine has made significant contributions to the Moroccan rap scene by incorporating profound social commentary with remarkable vigor and lyrical ingenuity. His work and narration will be honest and inspiring to future generations of artists.
