Annotations and Meaning

WELCOME2DTQ by Hev Abi speaks quite vividly about life in downtown Quezon City, especially 1103. Hev Abi introduces himself as some king in the hood and says that he is basically in control and commands the streets. The general theme of the lyrics is about power, street life, and hustle, among others, relating to keeping oneself's status in a tricky street.

Analysis

The confident tone is immediately set in the intro line, "We run this city," meaning the artist has control of the urban landscape. This can then be seen to be stressed by repetition. With the first verse in Tagalog and English, Hev Abi borrows Taglish and English to form an ingenious linguistic texture that speaks of the multiculturality at the center of QC. Hev Abi tells his story of rising from humble beginnings to a place of influence. He cites "1103," his district, and contrasts his cosmopolitan persona with gritty roots: "Ako may class kahit galing ghetto" (I have class even though I come from the ghetto).
